Tinder is famous for harboring people who are not what they pretend to be – and some of them might be looking for a hookup, but others may have even more malicious plans. Here’s the story of the recent Tinder scam.

The Tinder Scam

Two scammers have used Tinder as a tool to swindle heaps of victims out of millions in their cunning deceit. Local authorities reported that the scheming took place in the period between 2014 and 2016, claiming almost 30 victims in the process.

The criminals apparently posed as Thai Airways flight attendants to fool men into giving them money. Unlike the usual swindles, the scammers took their time in building up a relationship with their victims before asking for favors.

One of the deceived individuals told police that he regularly chatted and kept in touch with them. The once who he thought to be a ‘air hostess’ and all of their communication took place online. Anytime he would ask for a meeting, it was declined.

One day, the posers reached out to the man asking him for a small loan. The victim proceeded to transfer her 15,000 baht (approximately $435) and eventually all of their communication ceased after that.

This ultimately led the man to share the story with his friends, who advised him to contact local authorities.
